Christianity
The pioneer of Christianity was Rev. That Dun who began work in 1944. His Work was more settle with the expansion of Lushai influence from India. But he has strongly commitment to the Matus.
When the first missionary arrived his impression was “Matu people is cannibal. Then new converts believed that the people are save through uprooting our culture. They were against traditional culture and traditional embodiment of Demon. They felt that traditional dressing such as, Cungen, Lamko, Bailaeng, etc. were unclean untouchable.
The pioneer of Christianity, Rev. That Dun, has strongly commitment to the Matus. The remarkable event in 1954 that was one kind of culture reformation. All of vessels (Amrhaeing) were collected and destroyed by the young converts. They were strongly against and condemned drinking Yu (Traditional wine). They could not destroy the desire of drinking, even though they destroy Amrhaeng. Nowadays many people drink alcohol instead of traditional wine (Yu). Our ancestor used Yu for peace and tranquil, just and faithfulness in social life. Even though we proud for 90% of Christian in Matupi it is not genuine.
