Tribes in Matupi
Up one levelUnder British rule, the township was included in Hakha district Ministry of Home and Religious Affairs issued and ordered to be Matupi township on March 22,1948. In the township there are five major tribes namely; Matu, Dai, Zotung, Lautu, and Mara (Miram). In 1994, the total population of Matupi township was 47072; of which Matupi tribe was 15993, Zotung tribe 14482 (15482), Mara tribe 7676, Dai 5656 and Lautu tribe 2225.

- In Matu tribes contain; Batuu, Thai Phum, Nga Leng, Leng le, Oei Thang, Kui Hon, Nga Tuu, Lengtin, Piltun, Hnamhon, Wethoo, Hlatan Tribes.
- Tribes of Zotung
- In Zo Tung tribes contain; Sal Thawng, Tin Paw, In Mai.
- Tribes of Mara
- In Mara tribes contain; Ngai Fai, Lai Lin.
- Tribes of Dai
- In Dai tribes contain; Nung - Thai - Buisaa, Thangyawng - Ringca, Maadu-Welu
- Tribe of Lautu
- This is the tribe of Lautu.
