If we study the culture of the Matupi Township we can see that, there are minor differences in custom and tradition among the lactic group such as the Matus, Dais, Maras, Zotung, Sen thang, and Lautus. In spite of the varieties of people they lived amicably and in unity. So they were able to establish, Matupi our mother town.
History Background
Have a glance of the historical background of our society. There is anti-social term such as “Slavery” in the mouths of people of Matupi as well as of other areas of Chin state.
Tribes in Matupi
Under British rule, the township was included in Hakha district Ministry of Home and Religious Affairs issued and ordered to be Matupi township on March 22,1948. In the township there are five major tribes namely; Matu, Dai, Zotung, Lautu, and Mara (Miram). In 1994, the total population of Matupi township was 47072; of which Matupi tribe was 15993, Zotung tribe 14482 (15482), Mara tribe 7676, Dai 5656 and Lautu tribe 2225.
